Background

The Bank was established in 1948 as the Municipal Bank – Bitola, with a focus on operations in the Bitola region, and from 1962 also in the areas of Bitola and Demir Hisar. In 1966, the Municipal Banks of Bitola, Ohrid, Resen, Struga, and Krushevo merged to form the Commercial and Investment Bank of Bitola, headquartered in Bitola with five branches.

In 1971, the three leading banks in the Republic of Macedonia – the Commercial and Investment Bank of Bitola, the Commercial and Investment Bank of Skopje, and Stopanska Banka Skopje – were integrated into a single institution, Stopanska Banka – Skopje, headquartered in Skopje.

In 1977, Stopanska Banka – Basic Bank Bitola was established and constituted, and in 1989 the basic banks were merged to form Stopanska Banka AD Skopje, with the basic banks being transformed into its main branches.

Stopanska Banka AD Bitola, in its present legal form, commenced operations pursuant to a decision of the Shareholders’ Assembly dated 07 June 1995, as an independent bank with an opening balance as of 01 January 1995.

For decades, the Bank has represented a stable pillar of support and a reliable financial partner for citizens and businesses alike. Built on trust, continuity, and close relationships with clients, the Bank has left a strong mark as an institution with tradition, actively contributing to local economic development and the financial stability of the community.

As of 12 December 2025, Stopanska Banka AD Bitola has been renamed ALTA Banka AD Bitola. This renaming marks a new chapter in the Bank’s development – an evolution of its long-standing tradition with a contemporary vision, modern banking solutions, and a strengthened focus on innovation, growth, and the enhancement of customer experience, while maintaining the same commitment, stability, and trust built over the years.
